Second E-175 EP5 E2 prototype commissioned

Prototype project marks a consistent continuation of a proven collaboration between both partners.

At the Janneby wind farm, project partners DenkerWulf and ENERCON have commissioned the first wind turbine. Since this week, the E-175 EP5 E2 has been feeding electricity into the grid. The turbine is the second prototype of ENERCON’s new flagship model, featuring a 175-meter rotor diameter, 132-meter hub height, and a rated power of 7.0 MW.

DenkerWulf and ENERCON have shared a close partnership in expanding wind energy in Germany for more than 30 years. Together, the two companies have already realized over 500 megawatts of installed capacity, making a significant contribution toward climate neutrality. This trust, built over decades, is now reflected in DenkerWulf deploying the prototype of ENERCON’s new top model E-175 EP5 E2 in one of its own wind farms.

‘We are pleased to take the next technological step together with such a reliable partner as ENERCON,’ says Torsten Levsen, CEO of Denker & Wulf AG.

‘A successfully installed prototype is the best proof of a functioning partnership for future projects as well,’ adds Christoph Weidinger, ENERCON Head of Sales Germany North-East. ‘We look forward to continuing to contribute together to the further implementation of the energy transition in Germany.’

The E-175 EP5 E2 is the most powerful onshore wind turbine in ENERCON’s portfolio and ranks among the largest, most efficient, and highest-yield turbines on the European market. Equipped with a newly developed external rotor generator, an enlarged air gap diameter for higher torque, and significantly increased performance levels, it sets new standards for the onshore sector.

‘We are aware that the leap from the 6.0 MW to the 7.0 MW class is also a major challenge for ENERCON. However, after discussions, technical information, and the clear progress ENERCON has made in this area, we feel well prepared to install these wind turbines in our wind farms,’ says Torsten Levsen.

The turbine is also designed for practical logistics: the generator is transported in two halves and only assembled directly on-site.

With the commissioning of the prototype at the DenkerWulf Janneby-Süderzollhaus wind farm, a new benchmark is set in the European onshore market. A second turbine will follow in summer 2026 at the same wind farm.

For both partners, this project marks a consistent continuation of a proven collaboration: DenkerWulf and ENERCON have been key players in Germany’s wind power expansion for decades and are continuing their joint success story with the E-175 EP5 E2.
