Our Purpose Since Day One
ENERCON’s founding principle is closely intertwined with the idea of taking on responsibility for our environment, its resources and social equity. Our wind turbines have been laying the foundations for clean and decentralised energy generation from wind for over 40 years. In doing so, we are contributing to ensuring that our increasing energy demands – as a basis for our prosperity – go hand in hand with the protection of climate and the environment. To this day, this contribution is the pride and motivation of the entire ENERCON team.
The ENERCON sustainability strategy acts as our compass. With its goals and measures it guides us towards integrating sustainability into our economic actions even more systematically. It allows us to measure our progress and increases the visibility of our commitment.
Sustainability describes the responsible use of resources in every respect, ensuring that the basis of life is preserved for future generations. Sustainable behaviour is an essential commitment for ENERCON and an integral element of our company DNA – and has been since day one. Together with our employees and business partners, we look forward to making a tangible positive contribution to an all-embracing sustainable energy supply.

Protecting the climate and the environment is a key part of our company’s DNA. In the future, we want to commit even further to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our business activities. We aim to be more economical in our use of resources, use recycled materials wherever possible and contribute to the circular economy ourselves.
We will commit to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2024.
We want to reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 direct greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030.
We want to reduce the intensity of our Scope 3 indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2030.
We want to increase the use of renewable energies to 80 percent by 2025 and to 100 percent by 2030.
We want to offer completely recyclable rotor blades by 2030.
We want to promote the circular economy in our supply chain, with a particular focus on rotor blades and permanent magnets.
We believe fair working conditions are key to social equity. The contribution of occupational health and safety is as important as equal opportunities for fair working conditions. Together with our business partners, we are committed to strengthening human rights and protection of the environment along the entire supply chain.
These are our selected goals in the ‘Social’ segment:
We want to establish a strengthened culture of care to further protect the health and safety of our people.
We want to offer equal opportunities for all and reach a quota of 25 percent of women in leadership positions by 2030.
We want to focus even more on meeting our due diligence obligations in the supply chain, particularly regarding human rights.
We are aware of the effects of our business activities on society and the environment. We therefore endeavor to make economic decisions with the greatest possible prudence and to ensure that our actions are transparent. We expect the same of our business partners. The sustainability transformation can only succeed if we have a shared commitment.
These are our selected goals in the ‘Governance’ segment:
We want to be as transparent as possible in publishing our sustainability information by 2030.
We want to integrate sustainability indicators into our target structure by 2026.
Sustainability is a joint effort: in 2015, the member states of the United Nations passed the 2030 Agenda, which stipulates 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for socially, economically and ecologically sustainable development. The agenda is a roadmap for the future that enables people all over the world to live in dignity, while also conserving natural resources in the long term. At ENERCON, we are making a key contribution to the achievement of the goals ‘Climate action’ (SDG 13) and ‘Affordable and clean energy’ (SDG 7).
In October 2024, we signed the official declaration of commitment to setting science-based emission reduction targets. We are looking forward to a review of our measures and objectives through the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in the months to come.
