ENERCON has joined the VDMA as a member. As one of the pioneers of the German wind industry, the Aurich-based company joined the circle of manufacturers and suppliers in the VDMA Power Systems Association, which acts as the ‘voice of hardware’ for the energy supply sector, on January 1, 2024.
The membership is a win-win situation for both sides: VDMA Power Systems now represents the interests of all major European wind turbine manufacturers and ENERCON has an additional pillar in the mechanical and plant engineering sector with a clear focus on manufacturers.
‘In view of the challenging situation in the European wind industry, one of the most important goals is to strengthen this system-relevant industry and focus on the European supply chain,’ says ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer. The Managing Director of VDMA Power Systems, Dr. Dennis Rendschmidt, emphasizes: ‘In order to strengthen the supply chains in the wind industry and to ensure a crisis-proof energy supply, it is imperative to maintain and strengthen European value creation. This is necessary in order to secure our know-how and make us more technologically and politically resilient.’
ENERCON and VDMA Power Systems share a common interest in creating a fair market environment (level playing field) for the wind industry in Europe. This is all the more important as wind turbines from Europe compete in the tenders with products from East and West, some of which are highly subsidized.
Both ENERCON and VDMA Power Systems support these objectives. Both sides expect to be even more powerful in the future with a common voice and to be able to represent the interests of the European wind industry even better. ENERCON also hopes that VDMA membership will lead to better coordination of technical topics and cooperative, pre-competitive research projects to promote innovation.
